MA's Playhouse History

A Message from the Artistic Director:

The idea for MA's Playhouse was born in 2008 when myself, and my dear friend Martina Weber decided that we were going to develop our own theatre, featuring new works that would crisscross our multicultural sensibilities. Martina is of German heritage and had a Master's in Playwriting at the time. I am Trinidadian and had attained a Bachelor's in International Cultural Studies. We had both lived in New York for quite some time and felt that we could bring a dynamic and multifaceted perspective to the face of theatre. Since that time Martina has gone on to pursue the sociological aspect of human behavior and I armed with my BA in International Cultural Studies went on to pursue a Master's in Acting.

Upon graduation my fervour to create a theatre community was renewed. However, this time I sought to delve deeper into the development of the Caribbean persona. During my tenure I found that Caribbean plays were very hard to come by and when it did there was little to no contemporary published plays included. Needless to say as a Caribbean American actor, this excluded the Caribbean persona from my choice of characters. It is here that the ideas to hone not only my own skills but also to build a community came to mind.
