Haste! Sylvia! haste, my charming Maid!
\nLet’s leave these fashionable toys;
\nLet’s seek the shelter of some shade,
\nAnd revel in ne’er fading joys.
\nSee spring in liv’ry gay appears,
\nAnd winter’s chilly blasts are fled;
\nEach grove its leafy honours rears,
\nAnd meads their lovely verdure spread!<\/p>\n

SYLVIA.<\/p>\n

Yes Damon, glad I’ll quit the town,
\nIts gaities now languid seem;
\nThen sweets to luxury unknown
\nWe’ll taste, and sip th’ untainted stream.
\nIn Summer’s sultry noon-tide heat,
\nI’ll lead thee to the shady grove;
\nThere hush thy cares, or pleas’d repeat
\nThose vows that won my soul to love.<\/p>\n

DAMON.<\/p>\n

When o’er the mountain peeps the dawn,
\nAnd round her ruddy beauties play,
\nI’ll wake my Love to view the lawn,
\nOr hear the warblers hall the day.
\nBut, without thee, the rising morn
\nIn vain awakes the cooling breeze,
\nIn vain does nature’s face adorn;
\nWithout my Sylvia nought can please.<\/p>\n

SYLVIA.<\/p>\n

At night, when universal gloom
\nHides the bright prospect from our view,
\nWhen the gay groves give up their bloom,
\nAnd verdant meads their lovely hue;
\nTho’ fleeting spectres round me move,
\nWhen in thy circling arms I’m prest,
\nI’ll hush my rising fears with love,
\nAnd sink in slumber on thy breast.<\/p>\n

DAMON.<\/p>\n

The new-blown rose, whilst on its leaves
\nYet the bright scented dew-drops found,
\nPleas’d on thy bosom, whilst it heaves,
\nShall shake its heav’nly fragrance round.
\nThen mingled sweets the sense shall raise,
\nThen mingled beauties catch the eye;
\nWhat pleasure on such charms to gaze!
\nWhat rapture mid such sweets to lie!<\/p>\n

SYLVIA.<\/p>\n

How sweet thy words!–but, Damon cease,
\nNor strive to fix me ever here;
\nToo well you know these accents please,
\nThat oft have fill’d my ravish’d ear.
\nCome, lead me to these promis’d joys,
\nThat dwelt so lately on thy tongue;
\nDirect me by thy well known voice,
\nAnd calm my transports with thy song!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
